Challenge

The Client’s pipelay vessel, and the pipelay tower in particular, had experienced wear over the years' due to high utilization.

Stork was tasked with conducting a site survey to determine the extent of damage to the pipelay tower and develop a refurbishment manual to remediate the loss.

Solution

Stork utilized a multi-disciplined team to recondition the pipelay tower back to specification.

Rope access technicians were able to access the tower and conduct the required welding, rigging, fabrication, non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection, blasting and coatings, mechanical and electrical services. Scaffolding was also erected around the entire tower (~265’ or 80m) for non-rope access personnel to carry out duties.

The Client authorized additional workscopes for Stork due to the high quality of work carried out in the initial project phases.

Benefits

Reduced POB

Deploying multi-disciplined technicians reduced the number of personnel on board, which made this the optimal approach for the Client

Cost-savings

Cost savings were delivered as the number of mobilizations, crew changes and SimOps was reduced.

Ahead of schedule

Initial project phases were completed ahead of schedule.
